巨影が出現した街を生き抜く一般市民になる
人知を超越した巨大な影（巨影）がもたらす脅威からの脱出を描くSFサバイバル・アクションアドベンチャーゲーム「巨影都市」を手掛けたバンダイナムコエンターテインメントの塚中健介プロデューサーとグランゼーラの九条一馬ディレクターが、奇跡の出演実現の理由やコンセプトを語った。 ウルトラマン、エヴァンゲリオン、パトレイバー、ガメラ、ゴジラなど、人気作品の“巨影”たちの登場が話題の本作。これまでと異なる切り口の本作が実現した理由について、塚中は「主人公はあくまで普通の市民である、という特異なコンセプトを、版権元各社さまにご理解いただけたのが最も大きかったですね」と語る。
また九条も「ストーリーも『巨影都市』として独自のお話を貫き、各作品とまざることがないように気を使いました。むしろ、一市民から見た『あ、この視点から見たら、あのキャラはこう見えるんだ』という、映画やアニメとは違う部分が楽しみのひとつでもあると思います」と証言。
その一方で、「ただ、ゲームを作りに専念しているときは気にしていなかったんですが、広告展開がされるようになって、あらためて客観的に見たら、『ああ、（このキャラクターたちを）出せるんだ』と（笑）。作っている自分でもビックリしましたね」と笑顔。制作にあたって劇中に登場する以外にも多くの特撮作品を参考にしたといい、「中でもよく観たのが『ガメラ3 邪神<イリス>覚醒』。巨大な怪獣が街に来たらどれだけ怖いのか。この描写は研究しました」。
